JUDITH BOSHE

Specialist Mental Health Department- Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre,
Pioneer of Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, Mental Health Department,
Group Therapeutic Analyst Intermediate Level,
Qualitative Research Fellow – Vanderbilt University, Emory University, Cornell University, and Duke University (VECD) Consortium,
As a former research coordinator with the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs (ICAP) in Tanzania, a program under Columbia University’s Mailman school of public health who then trained in psychiatry at the University of Cape Town, and became a Fogarty Fellow 2021-2022. Privileged to have received mentorship under Dr. Dorothy Dow and Dr. Blandina Mmbaga that enabled me to create and pilot an adolescent mental health package adapted from the mental health and life skills intervention called Sauti ya Vijana (SYV: The Voice of Youth) for youth living with HIV. In this project we broadened the reach to adolescents exhibiting risk factors for or exhibiting mental health challenges in schools. As one of three practicing psychiatrists in the Kilimanjaro region with over 15 Million individuals, I am constantly reminded of the need of doing the most with existing limited resources by being innovative in-service provision i.e. task sharing or task shifting and carrying out group interventions. I am confident that the mentorship I am receiving in qualitative and implementation science research is instrumental in equipping me with the skills and tools needed for an independent research career.
